LOL Land Launches on Abstract: YGG's First Casual Degen Game

After years of connecting Web3 communities to economic opportunities, @YieldGuild Games (YGG) has stepped into game publishing with the launch of YGG Play, a new division focused on what it calls "Casual Degen" titles. Its first release, @LOLLandGame, went live on @AbstractChain on May 23, 2025, instantly drawing over 25,000 players during its opening weekend and surpassing 631,000 monthly active users in July.

This marks a strategic shift for YGG: from investor and guild network to full-fledged Web3 game publisher, bringing its deep understanding of gaming communities into building titles designed for crypto-native audiences.

What is LOL Land?

LOL Land is a browser-based casual board game that mixes Monopoly Go-style gameplay with crypto culture. Players roll dice, move across themed boards, and unlock tiles to collect points that can be used to claim NFTs and $YGG tokens, while racking up Abstract XP.

There are two play modes:

  • Free Mode: offering unlimited rolls without token rewards
  • Premium Mode: where purchased rolls allow players to earn points convertible into $YGG tokens from a $10 million rewards pool

Familiar community figures like @AaronTeng, @CryptoRusk0f, KP, @Burnasso, and even YGG co-founders @gabusch and @OwlOfMoistness appear as playable characters across the game's nine boards.

This includes YGG City, Beach Day, Carnival, Parkside Story, Garden of Zen, and Pirate Cove. Two boards, Ice World Wonderland and Pengu Wonderland, were designed in collaboration with @PudgyPenguins and Pengu Asia, respectively, while the Gigaland board was launched in partnership with @playgigaverse, YGG Play's first third-party publishing partner.

Pudgy Penguins Partnership

The collaboration with Pudgy Penguins has helped LOL Land land squarely in the heart of the Web3 community. "LOL Land is a game built by degens for degens," said @LucaNetz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins. "The Pudgy tie-ins, through both IP and character cameos, reinforce Abstract as the chain where Web3-native IP expands into accessible consumer experiences." he added.

Casual Degen as a Genre

YGG Play defines LOL Land as part of a new genre: Casual Degen. Instead of targeting mainstream gamers, it caters directly to crypto users who enjoy trading memecoins, minting NFTs, and spending hours in Discord.

According to @gabusch, this is the sweet spot: "People already spend on casual games. By combining that familiar format with Web3 rewards, we can deliver something that feels native to crypto culture but fun for anyone to pick up and play."

This positioning reflects a deliberate strategy: casual, snackable mechanics are among the most profitable formats in traditional gaming. By tying that model to tokens and NFTs, YGG is betting on a proven structure with crypto-native twists.

The Abstract Advantage

As you already know, Abstract Chain (built by Igloo Inc., the team behind Pudgy Penguins) is designed as a consumer-first L2 with native account abstraction and seamless onboarding features such as email login, recoverable wallets, and gas payments in any token.

Beyond its frictionless UX, Abstract also powers a discovery engine with XP rewards for exploring new games. This "XP meta" has already driven traction for titles like @MyriadMarkets, @RoachRacingClub, and @gacha_game_, and now LOL Land joins the lineup as one of its flagship projects.

By building on Abstract, YGG ensures LOL Land is accessible not only to seasoned degens but also to newcomers who may not even realize they're interacting with blockchain.

From Launch Parties to Real Revenue

The launch was celebrated in true Web3 fashion with events across the globe, including a major party in Kuala Lumpur hosted by Pudgy Penguins Malaysia. Community leaders, KOLs, and YGG core team members played alongside fans on a life-sized @LOLLandGame board.

More importantly, LOL Land's already hitting strong financial traction. According to Gabby Dizon, the game covered its development costs quickly and generated over $2,500,000 in revenue in its first 3 months, tracking toward $4 million in annualized revenue.

YGG has also initiated buybacks of YGG tokens to benefit the YGG ecosystem. As revenues climb, this "revenue meta" could become a cornerstone of YGG's strategy: games that generate profit feed long-term ecosystem growth and development.

What Comes Next

LOL Land is only the beginning for YGG Play. More boards are planned, more partnerships are in motion, and the Casual Degen approach could set a new standard for Web3 gaming.

For YGG, it's proof that fun, accessible games can capture both attention and revenue. For Abstract, it's another milestone in becoming the go-to chain for consumer crypto applications.

LOL Land may look like a simple browser board game, but beneath the dice rolls and penguin cameos lies a bold statement: the future of Web3 gaming belongs to degens who love to play.
